Welcome
Who?... Why?... How?... What?...
Most of us, at some time, have questions we can't answer and challenges we can't deal with. Sometimes there doesn't seem to be anyone who understands. Sometimes we just don't know what is wrong. When your usual ways of coping and problem solving aren't working, it can be helpful to seek professional support from someone like myself, who is trained to, and wants to, help.
Please read on to find out how I can offer you confidential support to help you work through whatever is troubling you.

Counselling and Psychotherapy
Counselling
Counselling focuses on helping you explore and deal with current issues, challenges and life changes or events that you are struggling to cope with. For example, I help clients who are experiencing lowered self-confidence, low mood, bereavement, illness/accident, stress, difficult/abusive relationships, concerns with "coming out", divorce, redundancy, being a carer.

We typically tackle these issues over a short-medium term time frame (c.3-6 months) and focus more on the present than the past.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy usually involves longer-term, deeper work to address ongoing challenges, issues or mental health problems. For example, I help clients who are struggling with chronic low self-esteem or self-worth, anxiety, depression, ADHD, impact of trauma/abuse, repeated patterns of unhelpful or destructive behaviour, identity issues including gender and sexuality, persistent recurring relationship problems.
We typically go into more detailed exploration of your past experiences and relationships to understand how they impact the present and to work through unresolved hurts - which allows you to move on and make new, different choices about how you live your life.

Often, counselling and psychotherapy overlap. Our work is guided by what you want to address and how deep you want to go.
How I Work
I provide a safe, confidential and calm space in which you can freely talk and express your feelings. I will listen, support and sometimes challenge you. We will explore whatever comes up and make sense of it together, to help you figure out how to move forwards.

I know that taking the first step can be daunting. We will meet together for a free half-hour session, to decide whether I am the right person for you to work with.

After that, I charge £50 per 50-minute session. I also offer a small number of reduced cost slots for those on low income.

I normally work face-to-face, but due to COVID-19 all sessions are currently online or over the phone.
